Stand Your Ground

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
– Ephesians 6:13-17 (NLT)

Out of all of this, and the many times I have read it, three simple words stood out to me (this particular time): “Stand your ground…”.  Stand. Your. Ground.

  • When you are faced with the memories of your past, stand your ground.
  • When forgiveness is a word of impossibility, stand your ground.
  • When your mind is your greatest enemy, stand your ground.
  • When you doubt who you are, stand your ground.
  • When you don’t see what you were created to be, stand your ground.
  • When you don’t know where to turn, stand your ground.
  • When fear embraces your heart, stand your ground.
  • When you never fit in, stand your ground.
  • When no one understands, stand your ground.
  • When you are in immense pain, stand your ground.

This list really could continue on; it can be shaped and molded to your individual live, but regardless, the instruction never changed. The words “stand your ground” apply no matter where you are in life.

That being said, it’s up to you to act and react to life. Will you crumble and fold under the pressure? Will you fall back to habitual happiness? Or, will you stand your ground?
